Spring hiking in Muskoka is a feast for the senses. In Gravenhurst and Bala, look for lady slipper orchids and trilliums along granite shorelines and in the hardwood forests of Hardy Lake Provincial Park. In the Torrance Barrens Conservation Area, discover carnivorous sundew and pitcher plants thriving in the wetlands. Over in Lake of Bays, Limberlost Forest & Wildlife Reserve offers 70 km of scenic trails winding past lakes, lookouts, and mossy woodlands.
Bracebridge is the region's premier mountain biking destination. The Bracebridge Resource Management Centre offers 19 km of woodland trails along the Muskoka River. LIV Outside runs guided half or full-day cycling tours with rentals available — no need to bring your own gear.
Spring to early summer is the prime window for paddling Muskoka's rivers and catching the waterfalls at their most spectacular. In Bracebridge, paddle the Muskoka River past South Falls — the tallest vertical drop waterfall in the region. Near Algonquin Park, enjoy a half-day wilderness paddle from Oxtongue Lake to the breathtaking Ragged Falls. With 9 waterfalls to explore across the region, spring paddling in Muskoka never gets old.
