- Morning: Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre trails near Midland. Leashed dogs are welcome on trails; keep them out of the Birds of Prey and Swan Landing areas (Wye Marsh guidance).
- Afternoon: Cottage beach and kayaks, or a scenic drive toward Port Severn.
Optional longer outing from either base: Arrowhead Provincial Park near Huntsville. Walk the 5.1 km Arrowhead Lake Trail, then use the designated leashed dog beach sections at Beach 1 or Lumby Beach. Beach 2 and Roe Beach are reserved for swimmers without pets (Ontario Parks Arrowhead activities page).
Day 3: Slow morning, town, drive home
- Morning swim or dock time with coffee on the deck.
- Brunch stop / last groceries: Foodland Port Carling at 10 Bruce Wilson Drive if you are looping through Muskoka Lakes, or the Midland / Parry Sound stores above.
- Pack out garbage as required by house rules, then head south before late-day Highway 400 traffic.
Rainy-day plan (dog stays with you)
- At the cottage: Hemlock Retreat has a games room, pool table and arcade; Bayside has giant indoor games, Smart TVs and a gas fireplace.
- Covered outdoor time: short leashed walks under the timber deck at Hemlock, or the covered patio areas at Bayside.
- Still want a trail in light rain: Hardy Lake or Torrance Barrens (wear waterproof layers; granite gets slippery).
- Indoor museums: Muskoka Discovery Centre and Muskoka Steamships in Gravenhurst welcome certified service animals.
