Christmas in Muskoka 2026: Festival of Lights, the Santa Claus Parade and a Cottage to Come Home To

October 22, 2026•3 min read

There are two kinds of Christmas people. The ones who start playing carols on November 1, and the ones who pretend to hate it but secretly know every word. Good news for both: Christmas in Muskoka 2026 has dates, and they're on the calendar now.

On October 16, the Town of Bracebridge announced the return of the Festival of Lights, hosted by the Town and the Downtown Bracebridge Business Improvement Area. The Town sits on the 45th parallel, halfway between the Equator and the North Pole, and is "recognized as Santa's summer home." Seems like a good place to spend his busy season, too.

Christmas in Muskoka 2026: the dates to know

Moonlight Shopping Party and Street Festival: Friday, November 20

The season kicks off downtown from 6 to 9 p.m., with fireworks at 8 p.m. The Town lists a holiday train, a drop-off for letters to Santa, living holiday window displays, hot chocolate and family-friendly activities. After the fireworks, you can take your own photos with Santa.

Bring a new, unwrapped toy. The Town is collecting them for its holiday toy drive.

Elf on the Shelf Scavenger Hunt: November 20 to December 21

Kids (and competitive adults) can hunt for elves hidden in select downtown businesses, with a chance to win a Shop the Bridge gift card. It's a sneaky way to get everyone walking Manitoba Street while you check off your gift list.

Bracebridge Santa Claus Parade: Friday, December 4 at 6 p.m.

The evening parade travels along Manitoba Street, presented by the Rotary Club of Bracebridge/Muskoka Lakes. Get there early for a curbside spot, dress for standing still in the cold, and bring a thermos.

Details can change, so check the Town's Festival of Lights page for the latest before you go.

How to plan a Muskoka Christmas weekend

  • Pick your anchor. The Moonlight Shopping Party (November 20) or the Santa Claus Parade (December 4) both make a great Friday night. Arrive, check in, head downtown.

  • Shop small. Downtown Bracebridge is full of independent shops. Gifts from a Muskoka main street beat another box on the porch.

  • Save Saturday for the cottage. Hot tub, games, a long dinner, and nobody has to drive anywhere.

  • Want more Bracebridge? Our guide to things to do in Bracebridge has the rest of the town covered.

Christmas cottage rentals in Ontario: three to consider

A cottage Christmas means everyone under one roof, a big kitchen, and somewhere to hide the presents. Three of ours that suit the season:

Good Times, Gravenhurst

Six bedrooms, sleeps twelve. A lakefront A-frame with a covered hot tub, kayaks, a fire pit and a game room with an arcade. Gravenhurst is right next door to Bracebridge, so the parade is an easy evening out. More in our Good Times cottage guide.

Blue Cottage, Washago

Four bedrooms, sleeps ten. Waterfront, with a big deck, Starlink, a pool table for the post-dinner tournament and a fire pit.

The Menominee, Lake of Bays

Three bedrooms, sleeps six, on Menominee Lake with a dock and fire pit. A quieter Christmas for a smaller crew.

Holiday weeks are popular, so if you have your heart set on specific dates, reach out sooner rather than later. Call or text 705-996-6799, or email [email protected].
