Hemlock Hideaway in brief

Hemlock Hideaway is a three-bedroom, two-bathroom waterfront log home in Parry Sound, on the eastern shore of Georgian Bay. It sleeps 7 and has a private dock and beach, a red canoe, an outdoor hot tub with lake views, a fire pit with firewood included, a screened Muskoka room, a wood-burning fireplace and a loft with a pool table, plus arcade games. Downtown Parry Sound is about 7 minutes by car and Toronto about 3 hours. Small pets are welcome with approval. Call 705-996-6799 to check dates.

Log walls, lake light

Hemlock Hideaway is a log home set among hemlock and pine on the water in Parry Sound, the harbour town on the eastern shore of Georgian Bay. Inside, honey-toned log walls and wood ceilings frame a living room built around a wood-burning fireplace, with tall windows on the trees and the water. It is a house that rewards slow mornings: the fully automatic coffee machine does the work, and the view does the rest.

The Muskoka room and the loft

Off the living space, a screened Muskoka room holds a round dining table and a swing chair, the best seat in the house on a summer evening. Upstairs, a timber-framed loft looks down over the living room and holds the pool table, with arcade games and shelves of board games for rainy days. The kitchen has an oven, an air fryer, a dishwasher, a toaster and a kettle.

Down at the water

A path leads down to the private dock and beach, where Big Red, the cottage canoe, waits. Paddle out at golden hour and you will understand why so many guests mention the sunsets. Anglers take note: one family wrote that they caught bass and pike right off the dock. There is a marina next door and a boat launch nearby, with parking for a car and trailer, so bringing your own boat is easy. The dock and water gear are seasonal.

Fishing was amazing right off the dock. We did not need to rent a boat.

Evenings

After dinner, the fire pit sits on the rock by the water, firewood included, and the outdoor hot tub looks out over the lake. Central heating and air conditioning keep the house comfortable in every season.
